Description

The theme of the 3rd and final Solar Decathlon sponsored by bp Oman will be on the topics of improving efficiency of and /or the storage for energy supplied by solar photovoltaic systems. Specifically, participants in the decathlon shall come up with a concept and detailed design schematics for a new technology or development either in the solar panel (e.g. new semiconductors or other materials in the solar panel itself) or in the way that the energy is stored (e.g. like a battery or similar storage mechanism). We will not be accepting ideas for automated cleaning solutions of solar panels as that was the topic of a previous solar decathlon.



All interested persons are encouraged to fill in the application below. The deadline for submitting an application is April 17th, 2022. The application will be reviewed and judged based on the information provided, and a select group of finalists will be chosen to present their ideas and submit a technical report that will be included in our final event scheduled on May 30th. The final event will include a panel of judges that will evaluate the groups based on their design of the final project, effectiveness of the technology, and presentation and communication skills. More details will be provided to the finalists when chosen.

General Rules

To be eligible for the competition, you must comply with the following:

• Must be a student or affiliate of an Institution of Higher Education (e.g. University) that is formally recognized by Oman’s Ministry of Higher Education
• Submissions must be for individuals or groups of no more than 5-students, whereby up to two-advisors are allowed for each Entry
• Entries must respond to all queries and prompts provided in the application below
• Students must submit a PowerPoint with the application that responds includes a Backrgound, Problem Context, Technology Description, Comparison to Conventional Technologies, Plan for Creating a Prototype. Please download the template here.
